In 2010 I lost my brother Andrew to suicide. My life was forever changed.
Moving through grief and processing loss, I found I wanted to DO something to help others that felt trapped by their mental illness. So I wrote Everything But the Cat… and it toured for a decade. I became a safeTALK Trainer so I could teach others to be suicide alert to those around them, and have ASIST training to help those in crisis with a suicide intervention. I co-created Stories Like Crazy with Lori Lane Murphy to give space and voice to those struggling, dealing, living with mental illness.
I am continuing to serve those around me as I learn more about grief, and in 2020 I studied Grief Literacy (Level I and Level II) and in 2021 I completed the End of Life Doula program with Douglas College. Currently I am with Hospice Toronto, and am trained as a Hospice Care Companion and Bereavement Facilitator volunteer. As I acquire more experience as a Death Doula, I am continuing my practice as a Reiki Healer, a Japanese healing art, to aid those around me through emotional and physical distress.
