With social media and the internet itself in flux thanks to broligarchy and people scrambling to keep their digital connections – I am trying new things to keep growing my digital community. I’m over on Substack https://ladydeathdoula.substack.com/ sharing death literate and mental health bent wrtings (much like I did over on Tumblr years back when I was posting themes aligned with my Everything But The Cat… show.
I’m also trying out BlueSky https://bsky.app/profile/adriannap.bsky.social as I try to unmesh myself from the Meta universe of social media. I deleted Twitter in the second wave of major exodus due to their owner’s fascist views, but unfortunately Meta is much more ingrained. As I pull photos and video, archiving them for myself offline, and try to mindfully post (mostly as an AOP Feminist spreading anti-fascist/anti-racist resources) I still want a space that is focused on building something beautiful rather than tearing down (the capitalist patriarchal system).
As I study my BSW I am reminded of second wave Feminism where they proclaimed the personal is political – so no, I don’t think anything we are doing right now can be separated from the socio-political events that overwhelm us day-to-day. But I am choosing to use certain platforms for certain actionables to make it make sense to me and to sleep better at night.
Tell me, where are you finding community these days?
